We call SP-1 in tribute to an agronomist called Sebastiao Pinheiro who first indicated the water for medical purposes.

    The water sprung up from the rocks since 1967 in Campestre - Jaramataia - Al but was only used for medical purposes in November 1995. At first a person who had suffered a stroke drank the water and started to feel better. Other people with different diseases heard about the water, started to drink it too and got cured.

    It's a mineral-rich water in which there are 33 chemical elements, including 120mg/l of magnesium and 60mg/l of silicon.

    It was considered by a Scientist called Dr. Benedictus Mario Mourao currently(1997) the director of a Thermas in the city of Pocos de Caldas-MG and advisor of the DNPM/MME as "crenologically precious".

    It was classified by DNPM/MME as a: magnesium-rich earthy alkaline mineral water of environmental temperature.

    The institution above recognises the water as having special characteristics. The amount of magnesium salts, sulphate, bicarbonate and nitrates in the water is unique in Brazil.

    Magnesium - Has over 300 functions in the human body. Its deficiency causes circulatory and bone diseases, etc.

    The scientists are unanimous in listing the numberless benefits that magnesium has over all living species. According to them, the lack of magnesium triggers arteriosclerosis, heart problems and stroke. According to the doctors Harari M and Barzilla R Shani J from the Dead Sea Rehabilitation Clinic in Israel, asthmatic people can be cured with the absorption of magnesium through the skin and lungs.

    Many studies carried out in several countries claim that magnesium deficiency is the main cause of many diseases such as circulatory diseases, heart diseases, osteoporosis, gastritis, diabetes, constipation, kidney problems, sexual performance, arthritis, prostate, alcoholism, Alzheimer's disease, cancer, depression, asthma, etc.

    Silicon plays an important role in the bone, vascular, nervous and respiratory systems. It is also found in tendons, skin and it's a mineral agent for the face. It also strengthens all the body tissues. The experts on silicon consider it to be "The Forgotten Nutrient" as it is found in small amounts in the body but claim it plays the role of forming other elements, justifying its small quantity in the body accounting for the good effect observed in people who have osteoporosis and bone diseases that make use of silicon-rich water.

    The bicarbonate waters, for instance, are known for their effectiveness over renal problems. It's also indicated for people who have metabolic diseases, gout and digestive problems.

    In France, mineral water is such an important matter that it's controlled by the Medicine Academy and the Ministry of Health. Professor Cang Nguyen Ba, from the University of Bordeaux affirms that a regular intake of alkaline water rules out the risk of developing kidney stones. Alkaline water wipes out the excess of uric acid and avoids kidney stones, whereas iron-rich waters are indicated for those who have anaemia.

    As it is a mineral-rich water it must be stored in a place where light stays out to avoid algae developing.
